The Karate Kid was originally made in 1984 and directed by John G. Avildsen. Everyone had high praises for the movie and when the news spread that a remake was being made, the reaction of the masses was not what we would call ‘happy’. The Dutch director, Harald Zwart went into details of showing the beautiful scenarios of China and even exaggerated with the dialogues with some cheesy lines but he was successful in letting the movie stay original to quite an extent.
A remake by Hollywood, Karate Kid starts with a not-so-attractive beginning and slowly develops into being something classic. Even though it was a remake, the positive factor about it was that it was not a scene to scene, dialogue to dialogue copy of the original movie. It had the same atmosphere and jest of the first movie and that is one thing that the viewers admired. Even the characters were not the same such as Mr. Miagi but the essence of the presence of these characters was still found in the movie.
With children of stars such as Will Smith come on scene, the movies starts to get better on its own as Jaden Smith lives to follow his father’s footsteps and acts splendidly. With Jackie Chan in the movie, it is hard not to say that the acting was anything but good. Being a Kung fu hero we have all seen, Jackie Chan turned out to be a superstar that we never really saw. There was a lot of emotion on the screen and his made one appreciate the depth of emotions in the characters even more.
Even though the movie is good, it is not better than the original one. But on the basis of the fact that it is a remake, the job is pretty well done as they have been successful in making the movie modern and appealing to the viewers of today. It certainly has the ability to make you want to be all kung-fu crazy and be successful in learning this art. This is what a good movie is, right? Making you want to do exactly what the stars are doing!
