Case 39 by Paramount Pictures, is one of the best horror movies in 2010. Starred by Renée Zellweger as a naïve social worker who saved a ten year old girl from abuse by her parents, but discovers that the situation do not seem as they appear. Emily Jenkins thinks she knows it all until she met the 10 year old kid Lilith Sullivan, played by Jodelle Ferland and her cruel and unkind parents.
The film was taken in Vancouver in 2006. It was first released in the UK and Latin American countries in 2009. The film was originally scheduled in the US for August 2008, but was delayed twice and rescheduled on October 2010. This resulted in film leaking and many people have seen this one way ahead of others. It may sound frustrating, but this film is still worth a try.
When parents tried to harm their little daughter, her fears went in. She asked help from a detective named Mike Barron, played by Ian McShane. She took care for Lily until she finds a new poster family to live with. It all seems perfect for Lily, waiting for her new home and under Emily’s guidance and her psychiatrist. They didn’t know that dark forces that surround this little girl will to come and their attempts for protecting the girl would only bring them horror.

This supernatural horror is directed by Christian Alvart. It is his English debut in films; he made it up on this theater when his first film “Pandorum” was a success. For Oscar winners Renée Zellweger, who has a big name in Hollywood, has bought a lot of additional credits in her name. She once starred in most horror films earlier and this film is her comeback to the genre.
Scary little dark-haired pale-skinned skinny girls are very popular in horror movies nowadays. Adapting the Japanese horror films like “The Ring” and “The grudge” for audiences who still scream while reading the English subs. These little girls could bring horror to our screens especially in plots like revenge on elders, parents and older people. The movie “The Orphan” and this, “Case 39” is very similar to this. The secret behind the little girl’s wickedness, I won’t spoil it here, will make Emily Jenkins (Zelwegger) really confused. As the story progresses, Lilith will become more unpredictable and more threatening.
This film has a really good plot of story. Thanks to its writer, Ray Wright, he really made a good job. Two thumps up for him! “Case 39” was released in New Zealand last August, 2009, and was released in internationally in October 2010. I recommend this film for a night out movie with friends or family. It is worth the time and the pizza and the beer. 3 STARS!
